How to add a subsidiary company
Before you start
You'll need an existing holding company on your account. The option to design a subsidiary only appears if you already have one.
Setting up your subsidiary
- Start creating a new company, for example by adding a company to your portfolio. Confirm that it's for an investment property and that you meet the age requirement.
- On Design your company, you'll reach the Choose your company structure screen.
- Switch the toggle to Holding and subsidiary.
- A box appears asking "Want to add to your Holding Company?" Click Design a subsidiary.
- In the pop-up, select the controlling holding company, the one that will own 100% of your new subsidiary. Then click Add Subsidiary.
- Enter your solicitor details. This is the only design step for a subsidiary, since the holding company is the sole owner.
- On the Review screen, you'll see the company type listed as Subsidiary Company, along with the holding company's name and number.
- Back on the tracker, select Add a property, then Set up subscription (or Confirm subscription update if you're already on a plan) to pay.
When you won't see this option
- You don't have a holding company yet. The Design a subsidiary box only appears if you already have a holding company on your account. If you don't, choosing Holding and subsidiary will instead set up a brand-new holding company along with a subsidiary.
- Your holding company has a structure change request in progress. A holding company with a pending structure change can't be selected as the owner. These are listed separately in the pop-up, with an explanation of why they're unavailable.
